It appears to be the most economically damaging cyber attack ever in the UK, the research shows. The majority of the financial damage comes from the loss of production at JLR and its suppliers. Losses could be higher if there is an unexpected delay in restoring production.

Largest car manufacturer in the UK

JLR, the UK’s largest car manufacturer, previously reported that there had been a major cyber attack in August. British, Slovak, Brazilian and Indian factories were therefore shut down. Two weeks ago, the manufacturer started restarting production. JLR has three factories in the UK, producing around a thousand cars a day.

Analysts estimate that JLR has lost around £50 million a week due to the shutdowns. Last month it was announced that the car manufacturer will receive a £1.5 billion loan guarantee from the British government to help the company recover from the cyber attack. According to JLR’s website, the manufacturer will announce its financial results in November.
