With this new measure, the City of Bruges wants to increase safety, reduce nuisance and contribute to a clean, healthy and animal-friendly city. “Fireworks cause loud bangs and bright flashes and have a major impact on people and animals. They cause stress and panic, sometimes resulting in injuries or disappearances,” says Alderman for Animal Welfare Olivier Strubbe.
“The environment also suffers from fireworks. They pollute the air and leave waste on the streets and in the soil.” Private individuals will also not be able to light fireworks during New Year’s Eve.
