Double against Everton

For Liverpool FC, the hoped-for support from city rivals FC Everton in the title race of the English Premier League failed to materialize. The “Toffees” bulwark lasted 70 minutes in the game against defending champions Manchester City on Saturday, then striker Erling Haaland struck. The Norwegian scored both goals (71st/85th) in the 2-0 (0-0) and ended his personal dry spell.

The top scorer had not scored a goal in the league since November 25th. Nevertheless, Haaland achieved a record in his 50th starting eleven in the English upper house. He scored 51 goals in these games, something no one had ever achieved before. Added to this are three substitutions and one goal, so the quota is: 53 games, 52 goals.

With the win, coach Pep Guardiola’s team took the lead for the time being with 52 points, but Liverpool (51) could still follow suit in the home game against Burnley FC in the afternoon. For City it was also a successful dress rehearsal for the Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday at FC Copenhagen.
