Haakon and Mette-Marit have double birthdays in the summer

Norway’s crown prince couple celebrate their fiftieth birthday together.

Norway will celebrate double royal birthdays this coming summer, as both Crown Prince Haakon and his wife, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, will turn 50.

Haakon’s birthday is July 20 and Mette-Marit’s is August 19.

A joint big party is planned, which will be organized on a special day for the couple, August 25. The day is Haakon and Mette-Marit’s wedding day.

They got married in 2001 in Oslo Cathedral. So in the summer we celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary. The couple has been together for a total of 24 years.

The combined birthday and wedding anniversary is celebrated at Oslo’s Royal Palace in a large yard party. Having seen Nordic rulers and plenty of ordinary people there.

The couple, who met at the Kristiansand festival in 1999, had a rocky start. Mette-Marit was a single parent of a small son and her ex-boyfriend had been convicted of a drug offence. The nation shuddered, but the Court of Norway welcomed Mette-Marit with open arms.

The family later grew with two children together.

In recent years, Mette-Marit’s health has been overshadowed by incurable pulmonary fibrosis
