The former Bundesliga player Guido Burgstaller ends his career as a soccer professional after the end of the season.

The decision of the Austrian ex-national player, who had celebrated his comeback after a skull base broken about a month ago in the Conference League, announced his club Rapid Vienna on Tuesday.

“To stop now, is the most difficult decision of my entire football life,” said Burgstaller in the club announcement: “If someone had told me 20 or 25 years ago that I had made this decision as a 36-year-old player of the SK Rapid, I would not have thought this trip possible.”

Burgstaller played in Germany from January 2015 to summer 2022. The striker completed a total of 246 encounters in the Bundesliga and in the lower house for 1. FC Nürnberg, Schalke 04 and FC St. Pauli.
