Guardians of the Galaxy 3 premiered at Disneyland Paris

Noit was not an announced success. A Marvel superhero film, but based on a comic that came out in 1969 and was almost forgotten? And instead, Guardians of the Galaxyfilmed just ten years ago, made a bang (772 million dollars grossed worldwide) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, released in 2017, surpassed it ($863 million at the box office). There was something to celebrate with grandeur for the threequel,Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3which hits theaters May 3. And so The cast – even before the Hollywood premiere – landed for a preview and a gala in Paris. TO Disneyland Paris, to be exact, which celebrates its thirtieth anniversary.

The Marvel Campus

The location was up to the event, ça va sans dire: The Marvel Avengers Campus, the thematic area with (adrenaline-pumping) attractions inspired by the Marvel universe (from Spider-Man to Iron Man) inaugurated in July 2022 in Walt Disney Studios Park (which flanks the first nucleus of the amusement park dedicated to Disney classics and Star Wars). On the Avengers Tower, next to the Quinjet (the futuristic plane of the Avengers) they made their spectacular appearance – preceded by the performance of a group of “alter ego” dancers of the protagonists of the film – director and screenwriter, James Gunn, and the cast: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff and Vin Diesel.

The plot (no spoilers)

But what challenges will the unlikely heroes of Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3? In order not to spoil the surprise with useless spoilers, suffice it to say that – just as they are settling in the Knowhere space station – Peter Quill (Pratt), still tried by the loss of Gamora (Saldana), must gather them around him for a new mission: in dance is the life of Rocket (the anthropomorphic raccoon with the voice of Bradley Cooper). The enemy is the High Evolutionary (actor Chukwudi Iwuji), a scientist believed to be in charge of a mission (Really impossible): the creation of a perfect society.

The psychology of the characters is more in-depth than in previous films, and it is no coincidence. «Chapter 3 will also be the last» anticipated the director. “That’s why I wanted each of them to have their own well-defined future”.

«Guardians of the Galaxy it’s an irreverent saga that doesn’t forget the iconicity of main scenes and heroes, on the contrary, it transforms a “heap” that seems ill-matched into a group of heroes. An eccentric world, full of colours, made of a paste that has the irony of post-modern cinema and follows the rhythm of a soundtrack that becomes the protagonist. The music is physical, kept in the walkman of the protagonist, and releases strength and light almost as much as the images». Words from a juvenile critic? No: it is the judgment of the artist Marco Lodola, who was inspired by the protagonists (Peter Quill, Drax, Groot, Rocket, Nebula and Mantis, more precisely) for six luminous neon sculptures.

There is also Springsteen

And the importance of the soundtrack is highlighted by the director himself, an hyper-competent rocker (it will not be a coincidence that the spaceship is called “Bowie”, and is the most sumptuous ever imagined, even surpassing the “Enterprise” by Star Trek). «I sent the entire playlist to the cast before shooting, so they could listen to it while reading the script» explains James Gunn. That for the final adventure he has chosen a variety of songs to please everyone: from Creeps by Radiohead to Reasons by Earth, Wind and Fire, from We Care a Lot by Faith No More a I’m Always Chasing Rainbows by Alice Cooper, from No Sleep Till Brooklyn of the Beastie Boys to Dog Days Are Over by Florence + The Machine until to Badlands by Bruce Springsteen.

It is undeniable that the credit for the final result goes largely to the “technical department” (made up of a real army, as demonstrated by the endless end credits). A Quill mask was so realistic that facial recognition on Chris Pratt’s iPhone gave the green light… But – that’s a spoiler – the Pratt-Gunn duo doesn’t end there: some spin-offs of the Guardians of the Galaxy it is already in sight
