Group of AZ fans evades ‘ridiculously expensive’ bus combination: “Cards received from a player”

Where more than 1,100 AZ supporters travel to Brussels with a mandatory bus combination, Anthony, Wessel and Emiel escaped the dance. The trio has managed to get tickets for Anderlecht’s home section. “I’ll take off my shirt, because we’re smart,” says Anthony with a smile.

They prefer not to say exactly how the trio got the tickets. “But at least through a player,” says Emiel. Around 3 pm, more than 1,100 supporters left Alkmaar by bus for the match Anderlecht – AZ. The Belgian authorities had decided that people could only travel by bus. A ticket for the combi cost 100 euros. “Of course that doesn’t make sense,” says Emiel.

European away day

At Belgian football matches it has been mandatory for some time that away supporters only have access to the match by bus combination. As a result, AZ supporters have no opportunity to visit Manneke Pis, the Grote Markt and the Atomium in advance.

Anthony, Wessel and Emiel were already in town at 4 p.m. and were therefore able to sniff out some culture in the Belgian capital. “Of course you also want to visit the city when you visit a European away day.”
