Great series is over for Telstar after defeat at FC Eindhoven

Telstar’s undefeated status is over after eight league games. On a visit to FC Eindhoven, the White Lions lost 3-0. Hopes for a result were dashed by two late goals.

The match between FC Eindhoven and Telstar is often referred to as the ‘Classic of the First Division’, because it has been played the most. At the White Lions there were three changes to the starting eleven. Ronald Koeman Jr, Özgür Aktas and Anwar Bensabouh were allowed to start. Joey Houweling, Thomas Oude Kotte and Jay Kruiver were child of the bill. The first opportunity was for Telstar defender Mitch Apau. He was sent deep by Anwar Bensabouh, but Apau shoots high over.

Eindhoven became dangerous via Lamine Diaby-Fadiga. He was played free, the ball went high over the goal. Moments later, Brian De Keersmaecker lashed out devastatingly, after which Koeman made a blatant error and let the ball through: 1-0. The goalie turned a header from Diaby-Fadiga a few minutes later. Trainer Mike Snoei was dissatisfied and after 37 minutes Cain Seedorf replaced Anass Najah. Just before the break, Bensabouh tricked Sven van Doorm (former Telstar), but the defender shot too softly at the goal.

Venom in the tail

It took a long time in the second half before there was a revival. Telstar got no further than a few pinpricks in this phase. Tom Overtoom was well released on the edge of the sixteen. His shot, however, went sky high over the target. David Min’s header also failed to produce the desired result.

Substitute Yahya Boussakou gave a good cross to Seedorf, his header again went wide. Eventually Jasper Dahlhaus made it 2-0 just before time. He hit behind Koeman after an assist from Evan Rottier. The latter made the defeat even more annoying a few minutes later by scoring the 3-0.

Setup Telstar: Koeman; Apau, Bensabouh, Aktas, Old Kotte, Blackson; Najah (Seedorf/37), Overtoom (Soares/81), Min (Smit/90), Plet (Boussakou/45), Giousis (Ainsalu/90)
