Great backstage video from the mixing desk of the “Memento Mori” tour

A video worth seeing has been shared on Twitter, showing Depeche Mode’s sound mixer at work. “The Man behind the Screens” is the title of a clip recorded at the concert of Martin Gore, Dave Gahan, Peter Gordeno and Christian Eigner in Bologna (July 16, 2023). In it, her husband can be seen at the mixer with his gear in front of him, on which Gahan can be seen singing “Wagging Tongue,” the second single from her album Memento Mori and song two in the setlist of her current concert tour. The sound mixer enjoys the hustle and bustle on stage, reminiscent of a conductor.

Depeche Mode currently:

Who says Depeche Mode always play the same songs live (apart from ROLLING STONE, but we’ve already taken that back)? For the tour finale of the open-air concert tour at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara in Bologna (Italy) on Sunday (July 16), the band slightly varied their set list. In Martin Gore’s solo part in the middle of the set, Peter Gordeno on the piano intoned the 1986 song “But Not Tonight” after “Home”. A song the band dug up on the 2013 Delta Machine tour. The track is a “Black Celebration” outtake, which her label curiously released in the US instead of “Stripped” at the time because this comparatively harmless love song was considered to have a better chance on the charts. What didn’t work; and only ten years ago Depeche Mode played the song live for the first time.

Setlist Bologna: My Cosmos Is Mine, Wagging Tongue, Walking in My Shoes, It’s No Good, Sister of Night, In Your Room (Zephyr Remix), Everything Counts, Precious, My Favorite Stranger, Home, But Not Tonight, Ghosts Again, I Feel You, A Pain That I’m Used To (Jacques Lu Cont remix), World in My Eyes (Dedicated to Andrew Fletcher), Wrong, Stripped, John the Revelator, Enjoy the Silence, Waiting for the Night, Just Can’t Get Enough, Never Let Me Down Again, Personal Jesus.

Meanwhile, on Monday (July 17) the regular presale for Depeche Mode’s winter tour, which will take the band through Germany for eight concerts from February 2024, started. Three times in Berlin (Mercedes-Benz Arena), once in Hamburg (Barclays Arena), once in Munich (Olympic Hall) and three times in Cologne (Lanxess Arena). It can be assumed that the gigs will still be sold out on Monday; however, there is great resentment about Ticketmaster and their sales system, especially the introduction of “platinum packages”.

Live, the band presents songs from the current album “Memento Mori”, but of course also a number of classics: “I Feel You”, “Never Let Me Down Again”, “Personal Jesus”, “Enjoy the Silence”, “World in My Eyes”, “Everything Counts” and “Stripped”.
