Bayer Leverkusen has already lost several key players with Jeremie Frimpong, Jonathan Tah and Florian Wirtz. Now another could follow.
Granit Xhaka apparently wants to leave Bayer Leverkusen. As the well-informed portal “The Athletic” reports, the Swiss midfielder of the “Werkelf” is said to have chosen the Premier League promoted AFC Sunderland. Xhaka has already agreed with the English, but now the two clubs still have to commit themselves to a transfer fee. According to “The Athletic”, Xhaka insists on a timely change.
The 32 -year -old Swiss was most recently associated with AC Milan and the Saudi Association of NEOM SC. But it did not specifically. And so there was an opportunity for Sunderland.
Xhakas advisor said to Sky: “We generally agreed with Sunderland. Granit wants to return to the Premier League. Sunderland attracts him – he wants to accept this challenge. We hope that Leverkusen will respect his wish and that the clubs will soon agree.”
The 32-year-old was under contract with FC Arsenal in England from 2016 to 2023. He was then switched to Leverkusen for 15 million euros. Xhaka has been with Bayer for two years, celebrated the double with the “Werkelf” in his first year, was the anchor in the midfield center and a key figure for coach Xabi Alonso. The 137-time international in Switzerland was also set in the second year, but since the change of coach-Erik Ten Hag took over from Xabi Alonso-his role is no longer clear.
