The number 1 in the world at Quail Hollow and closes with six shots of advantage. He had already won the Masters twice
The third Major for Scottie Scheffler arrived, the first far from Augusta: the 28 -year -old Texan won the PGA Championship in Quail Hollow, near Charlotte, in North Carolina with six blows advantage over the seconds (69, 68, 65, 70: -12). The response to Rory Mcilroy who had challenged Scheffler’s dominance with the success at Masters a month ago, but the number 1 in the world has made it clear that in recent years the real dominant of Golf is him, then came immediate. The success was built above all in the last holes on Saturday, with 5 shots earned in the last 5: Eagle at the 14th, and then the birdies at 15, 17 and 18. In the last lap instead there was a small fright with a Bogey at 1, immediately remedied with Birdie at the 2 who put the day downhill. From behind nobody he returned under and Scheffler – who had left with three borne blows – he checked with peace of mind. Only Jon Rahm at one point tried to approach, but his dreams of glory have broken on the Green Mile – as the last three holes are called – with a Bogey at 16 and a double at the 17th. The Spanish playing on the Liv closed in eighth in a group that includes the Americans Dechambeau, English, Riley and Poston.
A year ago, during the Championship PGA, Scheffler had been arrested by the police at dawn on Friday, while he was entering the Valhalla field. Accused of aggression to public officials, he then spent the morning in the cell with the experience of being photographed with the orange suit of the galleys for the signs photo. This had practically excluded it from the tournament even though that day he had managed to arrive and play, even very well. But probably due to the tiredness and repercussions of misadventure, the weekend had been a half disaster. Then the accusations had been stored in a hurry and his 2024 had then become an extraordinary year with 7 successes on the PGA – including the Masters and Theplayers – plus the Olympic gold in Paris. In 2025, however, much more slowly started, the first victory came only in early May in Byron Nelson, but the success at Quail Hollow is yet another testimony of its greatness. To make a comparison with the past, only two players had won at least 15 PGA and three majors races before turning 29: Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus.
After the two Masters of 2022 and 2024, Scheffler is now halfway into the Grand Slam of career. At three majors he reaches players like Jordan Spieth and Vijay Singh.
