“The Brutalist” and “Emilia Peréz” win, Demi Moore also wins hearts.

It’s award season again: On the night of January 5th, the 82nd Golden Globes ceremony took place in Beverly Hills and brought with it a few surprises. The winners were honored in 27 categories from film and television.

Architectural epic wins, Chalamet films fail

The Golden Globe for best film drama went to “The Brutalist” by US director Brady Corbet. The film, which tells the story of a Jewish architect in post-war America, beat strong competition. These include “Dune: Part Two” and the Bobn Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown,” both of which came away completely empty-handed.

Adrien Brody also impressed with his performance in the three-and-a-half-hour architectural epic – the jury honored him in the “Best Actor in a Drama” category. The Brazilian actress Fernanda Torres was able to assert herself as the female counterpart with her role in “I’m Still Here” by Walter Salles. The film examines the effects of the Brazilian military dictatorship on a family in the 1970s.

Four Golden Globes for “Emilia Perez”

The musical thriller “Emilia Pérez” by Jacques Audiard was convincing in the “Comedy/Musical” category. The director tells the story of a Mexican drug lord who undergoes gender reassignment surgery. The film also stood out in the categories “Best Non-English Language Film” and “Best Film Song” (“El Mal”), and Zoë Saldaña also received the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor. The production had previously entered the race as the clear favorite with ten nominations.

Emmy record holder can also impress at the Globes

In the TV categories, the award for best drama series went to “Shōgun”. The literary adaptation about Japanese samurai culture also won awards for Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai as best leading actors. Tadanobu Asano was honored for best supporting role. Director Jerry London’s work had already won 18 Emmy Awards in September – a new record.

The previously award-winning comedy series “Hacks” once again won the “Best Comedy/Musical Series” category. As in 2022, Jean Smart was able to prove herself as best actress (comedy). Jeremy Allen White won the Best Actor trophy in the same category for his role in The Bear: King of the Kitchen. In the miniseries, the stalker thriller “Baby Reindeer” won the race, with Jessica Gunning as best supporting actress. Jodie Foster in “True Detective: Night Country” and Colin Farrell in “The Penguin” impressed the jury as best actors.

Better late than never: Demi Moore receives first important award

Demi Moore, who won a major film award for the first time, received a special honor. The 62-year-old won best actress in a comedy/musical for her role in “The Substance.” However, the category deceives you a little, because Coralie Fargeat’s horror film is only funny to a limited extent: It tells the story of an older actress who wants to regain her youth through a chemical drug. Moore beat competitors like Amy Adams and Zendaya in the category.

When Moore accepted her award, her acceptance speech provided the most emotional moment of the ceremony. 30 years ago, a producer told her that she was a “popcorn actress” – a disparaging remark that has now proven to be wrong. “I’m just in shock at the moment,” said Moore, visibly moved.
