Gnabry shock for FC Bayern

FC Bayern will have to do without Serge Gnabry for a long time after their comfortable victory in the DFB Cup against third division team Preußen Münster (4-0). The national player suffered a fracture in his forearm on Tuesday evening and will be “missed for several weeks,” said coach Thomas Tuchel on “Sky” after the game: “He will have an operation in Munich tomorrow.”

Gnabry suffered the injury in the 4th minute of the game in Münster.

In the Prussia penalty area he collided painfully with goalkeeper Johannes Schenk. Referee Matthias Jöllenbeck decided against a penalty whistle. Gnabry had to be replaced a little later. Youngster Frans Krätzig took his place in FC Bayern’s offensive line.

Coach Thomas Tuchel’s worries are growing ahead of the Bundesliga clash against RB Leipzig on Saturday (6:30 p.m.). “It’s bitter. He’s an important player and a great character,” said the coach.

Major personnel concerns at FC Bayern

In Münster, all trained central defenders were missing: Dayot Upamecano (adductor problems), Matthijs de Ligt (bruised left knee) and Min-jae Kim (hit on the thigh). Instead, the central defense was made up of midfielder Leon Goretzka and full-back Noussair Mazraoui.

Thomas Müller (adductor problems) also had to miss. Captain Manuel Neuer is still out after breaking his leg last December. His comeback is not in sight.

After all: the Munich team didn’t miss out on their place in the second round. A clear 4-0 win was ultimately on the scoreboard. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (9th), Konrad Laimer (40th), Krätzig (45th + 5th) and Mathys Tel (86th) scored for FC Bayern.

The last outstanding first round game is the duel between SV Wehen Wiesbaden and RB Leipzig, which takes place on Wednesday (8:45 p.m.). The second round will be drawn on Sunday evening at the German Football Museum in Dortmund.
