Globetrotter parent Fenix Outdoor ends 2023 with a decline in sales and profits

The trading group Fenix Outdoor International AG suffered losses in sales and earnings in the 2023 financial year. The group of companies based in Zug, Switzerland, which includes the brands Fjällräven, Tierra, Hanwag and Royal Robbins as well as the German outdoor outfitter Globetrotter, announced this on Tuesday.

Accordingly, group sales in the past year amounted to 750.2 million euros, which corresponded to a decrease of 2.6 percent compared to 2022. The loss was due not least to a disappointing final quarter, in which revenue fell by 10.7 percent to 184.3 million euros. The company justified the losses, among other things, by the fact that it hardly took part in the industry-wide discount campaigns.

In the Brands segment, which includes its own brands, annual sales fell by 3.8 percent to 198.3 million euros. The Frilufts division, which includes Globetrotter and other retail chains such as Naturkompaniet, Partioaitta and Friluftsland, achieved an increase of 1.2 percent to 352.1 million euros. In the Global Sales area, in which the worldwide wholesale sales companies are managed, revenue fell by 8.3 percent to 188.5 million euros.

The decline in sales and higher personnel costs weighed on the result. The operating profit fell by 34.1 percent to 55.0 million euros. The net result attributable to the shareholders even shrank by 47.9 percent to 31.6 million euros.
