Gladbach: Adi Hütter was a candidate for an ÖFB post – Herrmann remains

“A great honor”

Borussia Mönchengladbach coach Adi Hütter was also a candidate to coach the Austrian national team. The 52-year-old confirmed this on Saturday at the press conference before the Bundesliga game against RB Leipzig. “I am pleased and honored that Peter Schöttel (ÖFB sports director; editor’s note) also spoke to me. I communicated this to the club. Of course it’s a great honor to be named. But that’s not an issue for me at all. I have a contract here in Mönchengladbach,” said the Austrian.

The Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) presented Ralf Rangnick as the new national coach and successor to Franco Foda on Friday (to the news). “That came as a little surprise to me. I didn’t think that Ralf would ultimately do that. Something else will come up for the national team now. But that’s a very good solution,” said Hütter.

Gladbach: Extension with longtime leading player Herrmann is approaching

Meanwhile, sports director Roland Virkus provided information about the upcoming extension with winger Patrick Herrmann. The 31-year-old’s contract ends at the end of the season. “We’re in very good talks and I think we’ll be able to announce something soon,” said Virkus, who said of Herrmann’s qualities: “You always need a few guys who know the club, who then pass the DNA on to them the guys who will play for Borussia next year and Patrick can do just that.”

The two-time national player played his first Bundesliga game in the “Fohlen” jersey at the beginning of 2010. Only team-mate Tony Jantschke (32), Marcel Schmelzer (34) from BVB and Bayern’s Thomas Müller (32) have been in the professional squad longer than the winger.
