With the surprising move to Freiburg for the coming season, the initiative apparently came from national soccer player Matthias Ginter. He had the idea, said SC trainer Christian Streich before the game against Union Berlin on the TV channel “Sky”.
“We talked to each other. That’s the only way it’s possible. A player of this quality, with this history, he has to want something of his own accord. He really wanted to. And then we really wanted to, of course,” said Streich.
Ginter is surprisingly returning to his training club Freiburg for the coming season. Previously, the defender had also been linked with several top-flight clubs.
