At the Super-G in Bormio at the end of December, Gino Caviezel fell badly and was flown to the hospital by helicopter. Now the Swiss is speaking out for the first time.
For the first time after his serious fall at the Super-G in Bormio, Italy, Gino Caviezel addressed the public with a statement.
The 32-year-old Swiss wrote on Instagram about a photo that shows him standing in the snow on crutches and with a black knee brace: “The last few days have been very difficult, painful and emotionally intense. I have a complicated knee injury and a dislocated shoulder I now have to undergo further medical examinations and then hopefully we can develop a solid comeback plan for next season…”
During the World Cup race at the end of December, during which there were several serious falls, Caviezel entered a gate, lost his skis and slipped down the slope.
He was seriously injured and after the fall was transported by helicopter and taken to a hospital in Zurich. The dangerous conditions in Bormio led to harsh criticism of the organizers.
The season is over for Caviezel, who took part in the Olympic Games in 2014, 2018 and 2022. He thanked his fans for their great support during his most difficult time as a ski racer: “Thank you for all your nice messages, wishes and support – I will come back stronger.” When exactly that will be, however, is still open.
