Gijs Brouwer managed to reach the second round of the ATP tournament in Houston. The 27-year-old tennis player from Venhuizen won in two sets against the American Aleksander Kovacevic: 6-4, 6-4.

The American city of Houston is a special place for Brouwer. The tennis player was born there, but grew up in West Friesland. Last year, Brouwer also reached the second round in Houston. It is the third time this year that Brouwer has made it through the first round of an ATP tournament. In his second round match, John Isner (ATP-46) is now Brouwer’s next opponent.

World ranking

Brouwer is making a strong advance in the world ranking. Last year around this time he was the number 361 in the world, now Brouwer is in 123rd place. This makes him the best Dutchman in the world ranking after Botic van de Zandschulp (ATP-31) and Tallon Grepes (ATP-35).
