The ice hockey players of GIJS Hepro Groningen have finally won their first win of the season after five games. In their own Kardinge they defeated Yeti’s Breda apparently easily. The team of troubled coach Csaba Kercso won 4-0.
GIJS had a dramatic start to the season. Last year they almost reached the final for the Eredivisie title, but they did not win any of the first four games of this season. Due to a loss after overtime against Eindhoven Kemphanen, they already had a hateful zero points – for a loss after overtime you get a point. That is one point more than Yeti’s Breda, because they still had zero points before the start of the game on Saturday evening.
Clearly better
And it remained that way, because GIJS showed that it was clearly a class better than the Brabanders. The guests were given two time penalties early on, but just after the power plays, GIJS took the lead. In the ninth and twelfth minutes of the first period, Sebastian Snijder and Tim Bartels scored for the Groningers respectively. Halfway through the second period, Wesley Zoutman made it 3-0. Good old Danny Kerstholt set the final score at 4-0 in the final period.
GIJS will not return to action in the Eredivisie until November 4. Then it travels to Geleen for the match against Smoke Eaters. The Limburgers are disconsolately at the bottom.
