As of: January 23, 2024 6:38 p.m

Manuel Feller leads the night giant slalom in Schladming after the first round. The overall World Cup leader Marco Odermatt made a mistake and needs to catch up.

The news from the first round: Dominator Marco Odermatt doesn’t drive every race to perfection. The overall World Cup leader did not have an optimal ride at the giant slalom in Schladming on Tuesday (January 23, 2024). Odermatt starts the second run in eleventh place, almost a second behind (+0.98 seconds). With one exception, he has been on the podium every time this season.

Feller leads the home game

Manuel Feller showed the fastest ride. The Austrian defeated the Planai in 1:05:01 minutes and is leading the home game at halftime ahead of the Swiss Loic Meillard (+0.10 seconds) and Henrik Kristoffersen from Norway (+0.19 seconds). The 31-year-old is on the verge of his first giant slalom podium this season; so far, eleventh place in Val d’Isere was his best result.

Schmid’s solid drive – Gratz unlucky

Alexander Schmid has created a solid starting position for the final. The man from SC Fischen is 0.65 seconds behind Feller going into the decisive run in seventh place. The Allgäu native, who tore his cruciate ligament last March, has the best result of the season. He showed his best performance during his comeback in Val d’Isere at the beginning of December. At that time he took ninth place.

Schmid is the only German in the second round; the other DSV runners did not make it into the top 30 runners. Fabian Gratz came closest. The man from TSV Altenau was only three hundredths of a second short of another ride. Anton Grammel (44th / +2.96), Jonas Stockinger (55th / +3.67) and Stefan Luitz (57th / +3.74) had no chance.
