When and where will the 2023 Basketball World Cup take place?

  • The 96 World Cup games will be played in a total of five venues.
  • In the Philippines, games are split between the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, and the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila.
  • In Japan, the game is played on the island of Okinawa in the Okinawa Arena of the same name.
  • The games in Indonesia will be held in the capital, Jakarta, at the Indonesia Arena.
  • The World Cup will start on August 25th, 2023 with the match between Angola and Italy. The Philippines will also start as the first host on the same day.
  • The finale will take place on September 10 at 8:40 p.m.
  • In addition to the medals, tickets for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris are also at stake. The seven best nations qualify for the Olympics according to a fixed geographical distribution: two from America, two from Europe, one from Africa, one from Asia, one from Oceania.

This is the game mode of the Basketball World Cup 2023:

  • In the preliminary round there are eight groups with four teams each.
  • Each team plays each group opponent once. The winner gets two points, the loser one point.
  • The top two teams in each group qualify for the second group stage. There new groups of four are formed. The teams carry their points from the first group stage.
  • The two best teams in the new groups then move into the knockout round again.
  • The quarter-finals are played in a cross comparison of the groups. Group winners play against runners-up in the quarter-finals.
  • Semi-finals and finally the final follow.
  • After the quarter-finals, there are also placement games up to eighth place.
  • The tournament tree is set in detail. There are no draws.
