Germany missed a medal in the single mixed relay

As of: February 15, 2024 9:03 p.m

The German upward trend has suffered a slight setback. In the single mixed relay, Justus Strelow and Vanessa Voigt were not able to win their third German medal at the World Championships in Nove Mesto.

The DSV sent both of them into the race because they had also won the most recent single mixed relay in Antholz. This time it wasn’t enough for a podium finish and a World Championship medal.

The French team around Lou Jeanmonnot and Quentin Fillon Maillet (36:21.70m) won confidently ahead of Italy (Lisa Vittozzi / Tommaso Giacomel / +24.60 seconds) and Norway (Johannes Thingnes Bö / Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold / +27.40 seconds). “Those in front didn’t even make a mistake, they shot very quickly and ran very quickly”Voigt paid respect afterwards in the ZDF interview. “There was no chance of keeping up.”

Voigt awards medal in the last shooting

The German team had little to blame itself for. Justus Strelow used a spare, Vanessa Voigt managed without a single spare until the last shooting. But then she missed her chances of winning a medal at the shooting range and also had to let Sweden and Switzerland pass. The DSV team ended up sixth (+1:04.60 minutes).

Strong shooting performance at the start

Justus Strelow remained clean in the first shooting. However, in the standing shooting he needed a spare and left the shooting range in ninth place, 19.2 seconds behind. With this placement, Vanessa Voigt went into the cross-country ski trail.

The fifth individual again remained flawless and fought her way up to fifth place. And even in the standing position, all five targets fell on the first attempt and with a decent shooting time of 24.8 seconds. In the individual competition she needed significantly more time at the shooting range. In fourth place, she handed over to her teammate Strelow.

Trio pulls away in the lead

And he had also found his rhythm, hit all the targets while lying down on the first try and didn’t make any mistakes while standing. Vanessa Voigt was also able to build on her shooting performance and, thanks to again zero mistakes, was able to fight her way up to fourth place. But there was no match against Lisa Vittozzi (Italy), Lou Jeanmonnot (France) and the overall World Cup leader Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold (Norway).

“I had an extremely difficult time running today,” Strelow analyzed after the race.

Tandrevold awards victory

Of all things, Tandrevold showed nerves in the last shooting and had to go into the penalty loop. Vanessa Voigt couldn’t take advantage of the mistake, needed three spares herself and had to let the USA pass. Later, the Swedish team and Switzerland also came ahead of Germany. Tandrevold’s misfire cost Norway their victory, but they ended up taking bronze.
