As of: November 2nd, 2023 5:18 p.m

At the Germany Cup in November, national ice hockey coach Harold Kreis is relying on “a promising mix” of national team veterans and debutants.

The German national ice hockey team goes into the Germany Cup with only four runners-up from Tampere, but several prominent returnees. In addition, national coach Harold Kreis nominated four debutants for the home tournament in Landshut (November 8th to 12th) on Thursday.

“We have a promising mix,” said circle, “In addition to some silver medalists who want to prove themselves again, there are players who have made a good impression in the league. These also include well-known players who were not able to take part in the last World Cup and who won the cup with us in Landshut want to defend last year.”

Only four players from the World Cup squad were there

The 29-man squad only includes defender Leon Hüttl (Ingolstadt) and strikers Alexander Ehl (Düsseldorf), Samuel Soramies (Augsburg) and Manuel Wiederer (Berlin) from the World Cup team that made ice hockey history in May. The Olympic silver medalists Yasin Ehliz (Munich) and Leo Pföderl (Berlin) are playing again, who were also missing in Finland, as were the foreign professionals Tobias Rieder (Sweden) and Marc Michaelis (Switzerland).

Especially with a view to the knockout games between Munich, Mannheim and Ingolstadt in the Champions League in the next two weeks, Kreis did without numerous regular players. Leon Hungerecker (Nuremberg), Nicolas Appendino, Lukas Kälble (both Bremerhaven) and Mick Köhler (Augsburg) will be there for the first time.

Opponents at the four-country tournament in Landshut are Denmark, Austria and Slovakia. For the first time, the women’s national team will also be playing its home tournament in the same hall. National coach Jeff MacLeod’s team will face Finland, the Czech Republic and Denmark. “I think it’s very good that spectators can see two national teams in one place,” said Kreis about the premiere. The plan is to start with a lunch together and then a meeting between both teams.
