Dow Jones-the unemployment in Germany increased less than expected in June. As the Federal Employment Agency (BA) announced, the season -adjusted unemployment number increased by 11,000 after the previous month after it had grown by 33,000 in May. The unemployment rate stagnated at 6.3 percent. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires forecast an increase in the number of unemployment by 15,000 and a rate of 6.3 percent. Without taking the seasonal factors into account, the number of unemployed fell by 5,000 to 2.914 million. The unemployment rate remained at 6.2 percent.

“There are still traces of the economic weakness on the labor market,” said the CEO of the Federal Employment Agency (BA), Andrea Nahles, at the press conference in Nuremberg. “Unemployment continues to develop unfavorably. And the willingness to hire the companies remains low.”

The underemployment, which, in addition to unemployment, also includes labor market policy and short -term incapacity to work, fell by 10,000 to 3.579 million compared to the previous month. That was 40,000 more than a year ago.

As the BA continued, companies showed economic short -time work for 214,000 people in April. That was 44,000 less than in the previous month and 1,000 fewer than in April of the previous year.
