For Lys it is the last tournament of the year. The WTA season finale for the best eight players starts in Riyadh on Saturday. Lys only had difficulty at times in the second set on Monday with world number 527 and used her second match point to win after 1:11 hours of play.

Meanwhile, in Jiujiang, China, there will be a German duel between Ella Seidel and Tamara Korpatsch in the round of 16. The in-form Seidel confidently won her opening match against the French Tiantsoa Rakotomanga Rajaonah 6:4, 6:3.

With the score at 3-0 in the first set, Korpatsch benefited from Russian Polina Kudermetowa’s retirement due to injury.
