German open water relay without Florian Wellbrock

Without Florian Wellbrock, the German open water swimmers want to prevent the first World Cup without winning a medal since 2017.

As expected, the 26-year-old Olympic champion is foregoing a relay start this Thursday (8.30 a.m./CET) in the port of Doha.

This is evident from the official start list that was published. Leonie Beck, Celine Rieder, Oliver Klemet and Arne Schubert are competing for the German Swimming Association.

Wellbrock started the World Championships as double world champion, but was unable to take part in the fight for precious metal over both the Olympic ten and five kilometers. He now wants to concentrate on the pool races next week.
