Leander Wiegand hopes to recommend himself via the International Pathway Program for the NFL. Now he completed his Pro Day and impressed with his parade discipline.
Wiegand and his colleagues have been preparing for their Pro Day at the Pro Day at the NFL International Pathway Program since mid -January. On Wednesday the time had come – the talents from all over the world had to go at the Pro Day of the University of South Florida and were allowed to show what they could do.
Wiegand had concentrated in advance of convincing, especially when it comes to bench press. In conversation with sport.de He had revealed his goal for this week ago: “I want to create at least 40 repetitions. You just have to set an exclamation mark and in the past five years nobody has depressed over 40 and therefore I think that would be something that caused a sensation.”
40 in the end, but with 38 repetitions the former Munich Ravens player shone from the eleven and not only put his IPP competition – TJ Maguranyanga from Zimbabwe (26 repetitions) and Mapalo “Maz” Mwansa (25) – in the shade. 38 repetitions were also significantly more than the top talents at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis/Indiana this year. Luka Kandra, a Guard from Cincinnati, delivered the best value with just 33 repetitions.
For Wiegand the wait now begins
In the further course of the event, Wiegand then brought it to 32 inches (81.28 cm) with the high jump and 8 feet and 10 inches at the long jump (2.69 m).
To classify: his result in the high jump would have been good enough for 7th place at the Combine among all O-liners, at eye level with the high-trade talents like Will Campbell from LSU and Kelvin Banks Jr. von Texas. In terms of long jump, he would have missed the top 20.
In addition, Wiegand is said to have made a good impression on the O-Line drills.
For Wiegand and his IPP-Mitstreiter, the training is now going into training for a week, after which NFL team representatives come for individual trial training. And on April 7th, for the first time it will go back to the German homeland. Then he is approved for the draft (April 24th to 26th in Green Bay/Wisconsin). If it is not enough, he still has the chance to be assigned to one of the teams as an IPP player.
