Revanche successful: In the second test game against the Netherlands, the German handball players in Krefeld achieved a clear victory. The winning guarantor was in the goal.

Germany’s handball players refueled confidence around nine weeks before the start of the home World Cup. The team of national coach Markus Gaugisch won the second test game duel with co-host Netherlands 27:22 (14:13) and, led by the outstanding goalkeeper Katharina Filter, gave the right answer to the defeat two days earlier in Eindhoven (31:35).

Captain Antje Döll and Alina Grijseels became the best German throwers on Sunday evening with five goals each. However, the outstanding DHB player was a filter who parried one ball after the other and initiated the turn after a four-goal deficit with a quota of around 40 percent.

“I am very good things”

“It was so much fun today. We showed a different face today than on Friday. Now we are going home after a successful course with a laughing face”said match winner filter. Captain Antje Döll was particularly satisfied with the defense work: “I think we are on a very good way with our improved defensive in front of the World Cup. I’m very good things for the next few weeks.”

National coach Markus Gaugisch said: “We showed a completely different energy today than on Friday. Our defensive network was strong, we were creative at the front. So we won this game.”

Intensive Preparation time begins

Four preparatory games remain against Iceland until the World Cup opening game on November 26th. First of all, the European Championship qualification starts against North Macedonia in Gummersbach (October 16) and Belgium (October 19). The last finishing touches before the tournament starts in two duels with Switzerland (November 20/22).

After a promising start and the meantime 4: 2 (7th) by left -handed Nina Engel, Gaugisch’s team undertook more and more ball losses on the offensive. The result: quick switching game of the Netherlands and simple goals. At 6:10 (17th), the deficit in the meantime grew to four hits.

Filter and better and better

But the German game stabilized – also thanks to filters. The goalkeeper defused several free throws and a seven meter in the first section and thus laid the basis for the German chase, which resulted in a break.

After the change of sides, both teams changed a lot of staff. Filter was a factor between the posts. At 24:21 (52nd) by Alina Grijseels, Germany took the lead for the first time with three goals. Shortly afterwards (!) Filter started another seven meter, so that Germany went into crunchtime with a clear advantage. Three minutes before the end, the goalkeeper managed the feat again.
