In the previous year, Eva Lys was “overwhelmed” by the atmosphere in Wimbledon. Now the 23 -year -old makes it better – and creates a premiere. You can expect a special sore muscles.
In the brooding heat and over 30 degrees, Eva Lys made the racket fell facilitated after her success. As the first German tennis professional player, she celebrated a opening win at this year’s Wimbledon tournament-in a hard-fought three-set match. The 23-year-old from Hamburg defeated Yuan Yue from China 6: 4, 5: 7, 6: 2 and is in her career in the second round of the classic lawn for the first time.
“Tiring, incredible weather,” said Lys after the game at Prime Video. She made her “incredibly proud” that she found back into the game after missed opportunities. With a laugh she added: “I will have extreme ass muscle soreness tomorrow.”
The game started with long basic line – the first game alone lasted nine minutes. After an early 2-0 lead, Lys initially gave three games in a row, but fought back and secured sentence one after 49 minutes. She also played offensive in the second round, collected significantly more direct points than her opponent – but missed two match balls at 5: 4.
After the set of sentence, Lys had himself treated on the left knee. “I slipped twice, my knee slipped away twice,” she said later. But she doesn’t believe that it is serious. The decisive third sentence then clearly went: Lys hardly left room, dominated the action and converted her third match ball after 2:27 hours.
Last year Lys had left in round one at her Wimbledon premiere after a qualification. This time it is right in the main field for the first time. Before the tournament, she said she wanted to try “compensation and enjoyment to compensate for a little”.
In the second round she now meets Linda Noskova from the Czech Republic, which is set in position 30 in Wimbledon. Fellow favorite Aryna Sabalenka meanwhile started her title mission in Wimbledon with a safe success. The world ranking list from Belarus won her opening match against the initially overwhelmed qualifier Carson Bransine from Canada 6: 1, 7: 5. Last year, Sabalenka missed the classic lawn in London due to injury.
A total of only seven German single players in Wimbledon are there -as little as in over four decades. In addition to Lys, four other German professionals start the tournament on Monday. In his opening game on the Center Court, Alexander Zverev meets the Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech.
