Gerke AG confirms cessation of business operations

The trousers manufacturer Gerke AG will cease operations in the middle of the year. On Monday, when asked by FashionUnited, the company confirmed the decision. The specialist magazine Textilwirtschaft (TW) had previously reported on the move.

According to the TW article, the family business made the decision “due to the general economic situation and the lack of prospects in the clothing industry”. The situation in the specialist trade and the most recent price development were the decisive factors. However, Gerke will still deliver the current collection for the spring-summer season.

The clothing supplier based in Uslar, Lower Saxony, says it was founded in 1935 as a tailoring business and started the “industrial production of women’s, men’s and children’s trousers” in 1968. In 1976 the company specialized in women’s trousers. The company has been trading as Gerke AG since 2013. All board members and the chairman of the supervisory board belong to the founding family Gerke.
