Georg Zimmermann’s fall on Sunday was a moment of shock for German cycling fans. But there is reason to hope.
After his fall on the ninth stage of the Tour de France on Sunday, there is now certainty: Georg Zimmermann did not suffer any broken bones. The German champion wants to continue despite severe pain.
The 26-year-old Augsburger had to be sewn in two places after his fall. However, he was spared a fracture. The aching left elbow is very worried. “I’m worried if I can keep my handlebar, but I am determined to continue the Tour de France,” said Zimmermann.
The incident occurred 117 kilometers before the destination of the ninth stage. “I just drank out of my bottle, the next moment I banged the floor,” said Zimmermann. Teammates later told him that he drove against a bottle that was on the track – it was inevitable. “Everything went so quickly.” His German team -mate Jonas Rutsch had fallen a day before. He also continues.
