Gennaro Gattuso was known for his aggressive playing style, but also for his distinctive full beard, which he continued to sport in his mid-20s. But it can no longer be seen.
“That’s not Gattuso,” said a fan on Platform X when he saw a new picture of the world champion on Wednesday. Gennaro Gattuso, coach of the Croatian first division club Hajduk Split, had his beard shaved off – and now looked completely different.
For the first time in 22 years, the Italian is traveling without facial hair. And it was for a good cause: Gattuso took part in the “Bradata Aukcija” charity campaign and collected around 10,000 euros with his shave to enable health checks for men in the region around the city of Split.
Hajduk Split accompanied Gattuso and his video team to the barbershop where the spectacle took place. “Unrecognizable,” said one fan with certainty. “He looks like the late Maradona,” commented another. Another user on Platform X even asked: “Is that Al Pacino?”
In any case, the campaign was well received by the Hajduk fans. Gattuso is currently popular with them anyway, because in the league Split (second place) is ahead of arch-rivals Dinamo Zagreb (third place). The league leaders are HNK Rijeka.
