It depends on them at the 2026 European Handball Championships: Renārs Uščins, David Späth and Marko Grgić are part of the new generation of the German national team that finally wants to win titles again. Uščins and Späth – both 23 years old – have already become world champions with the U21 national team. Together with Grgić (22), they won Olympic silver in Paris in 2024. Now they are the bearers of hope for the first title of a DHB selection since 2016 – with three different paths in life. Uščins became a hero at the Olympic Games and became Germany’s handball player of the year in 2024. Since then he has had to deal with a lot of public attention – and his Latvian roots are particularly helpful to him. Späth is one of the greatest goalkeeping talents in the world. An emotional volcano who had to worry about his career in his youth – and doesn’t want to pretend today. Marko Grgić is the son of former Croatian international Danijel Grgić – with a lot of self-confidence, he dares to move to top club SG FlensburgHandewitt – does that also help him in the national team?
