Dow Jones-The Financial and Central Bank Director of the G7 countries have agreed on a wording for a communiqué and compromises when it comes to world trade. “We succeeded in finding a lot of similarities,” said EU economic commissioner Valdis Dombrovski on the sidelines of the G7 meeting to journalists. The discussions focused on the economic effects of US trade policy as well as the effects of global imbalances and how the economies can best cushion the consequences.

Dombrovskis said that the EU “would have been willing to see a stronger language in the communiqué”. US government agents under the leadership of Finance Minister Scott Bessent had different views of the state of the global economy. “But in any case, we are at least trying to find acceptable solutions for both sides,” said the EU economic commissioner. The communiqué is to be released later on Thursday.
