Former Bundesliga coach Friedhelm Funkel has commented on moving words to withdraw his ex-club KFC Uerdingen. “It depresses me, that hurts my heart,” said the 71-year-old of the “Cologne Rundschau”. On Monday, the KFC had withdrawn from the game operation of the fourth -class regional league West for economic reasons.
Funkel was player in Uerdingen, won the DFB Cup with the 1985 club. Later he became a trainer at the Grotenburg. Funkel is not surprised that the club is in bankruptcy proceedings for the fifth time. “Because the club has not been managed seriously for more than a decade. There are always new board members, arguments, hustle and bustle and construction sites. Sometimes there was an investor from Russia, then one from Luxembourg. It has nothing to do with continuity,” said Funkel.
Legal measures against Uerdingen’s withdrawal
The most recent example is the withdrawal from the game, which had been carried out by the insolvency administrator. The next day, the board reported that they wanted to initiate “corresponding legal or legal measures”. However, the chances of a withdrawal from the withdrawal are considered low.
The KFC Uerdingen should be preserved despite the current development, the insolvency administrator said. The aim of the bankruptcy administration is to make a debt and the development of a sustainable concept for a restart in the Oberliga in the coming season.
When you unsubscribe from the game before April 30, all games completed will be canceled in the Regionalliga West. This had already happened in the case of Türkspor Dortmund, who had withdrawn their team weeks ago. For the KFC, the 0-2 loss last Saturday at Fortuna Düsseldorf’s U23 was the last regional league game for the time being.
