Füchse boss Bob Hanning is optimistic about wooing world-class handball player Dika Mem. Another star is expected to come even earlier than previously planned.
According to managing director Bob Hanning, handball champions Füchse Berlin are about to make their next transfer coup. World-class handball player Dika Mem from FC Barcelona has received an offer and the contract has been “negotiated in principle,” Hanning told rbb. “We’ve decided that he’ll go on holiday now and then we’ll get a decision from him before the European Championships. I’m very confident, but I don’t want to announce it until the time has come.” The European Championship starts on January 15th.
“He now has to choose between Paris and us. My feeling tells me that he will come to us,” Hanning also told “Sport Bild”. “A world-class player should have played in the NBA of handball once, otherwise he is not a world-class player for me. Mem is a complete player, front and back. One who can win me a Champions League final.”
The 28-year-old Frenchman could move to Berlin in 2027 after his contract in Barcelona ends. Just like the Danish world champion and Olympic champion Simon Pytlick, whose commitment from Flensburg from 2027 has already been announced. World handball player Mathias Gidsel already plays for the Füchse.
The Berliners are continuing to try to get Pytlick earlier, but are also working on an alternative. “We know that he is still under contract with another team and are currently in the process of coming up with a plan B. So we could bridge the year with another very good and interesting player who fits well into our system and has declared his willingness to help out,” Hanning told rbb.
