Record offender Dominik Kohr from FSV Mainz 05 has been banned for three games after receiving another red card. He also received a fine of 15,000 euros. This judgment was made by the sports court of the German Football Association in Frankfurt/Main, as the DFB announced.

The 31-year-old, who was sent off against FC Augsburg in September, set a Bundesliga record with the ninth sending-off of his career on Friday in the 1-1 draw against TSG Hoffenheim: Kohr surpassed Jens Nowotny (formerly including Bayer Leverkusen) and Luiz Gustavo (including Bayern Munich), who each saw red or yellow-red eight times.

According to TV, Kohr was “scared”

Kohr badly fouled Hoffenheim’s Max Moerstedt in the final phase. After viewing the video images, referee Sascha Stegemann decided to send off the player. The foul again caused significant criticism of the defensive specialist’s style of play. Moerstedt survived the Mainz player’s rough start “well, apart from a bruise,” TSG coach Christian Ilzer later reported. He hasn’t seen such a hard foul in a long time.

Kohr apologized the next day. He only saw the extent of his action on the TV pictures. “I’m scared myself. That could have turned out differently. Max, please excuse me – I’m relieved and glad that nothing happened to you and that you were able to continue playing,” wrote Kohr on Instagram. Mainz will now have to do without him in the relegation battle.
