Coach Lukas Kwasniok does not expect Schmied to be ready for action next Saturday in Bremen. The regular player suffered “a muscular injury that suggests he will not be available to us next week.” With Luca Kilian (torn cruciate ligament), Timo Hübers (knee injury) and Rav van den Berg (shoulder joint sprain), three other Cologne central defenders had already been injured over the course of this season.

An old acquaintance is returning to the Geißbockheim in a new role: Stefan Müller-Römer, who chaired the members’ council for many years and was part of the board in 2019, is a member of a newly constituted statutory and structural commission of 1. FC Köln.
The board trio Jörn Stobbe, Jörg Alvermann and Ulf Sobek, who were elected in September, had already announced a comprehensive reform of the association during the election campaign. In addition to the outdated statutes, streamlining the committee structure and reviewing the legal form are also on the agenda. Müller-Römer should help.

1. FC Cologne is still worried about the use of Marius Bülter against Eintracht Frankfurt. After his gastrointestinal infection, the attacker was back on the training pitch on Thursday, but according to Lukas Kwasniok, the illness took a toll on him. “When he showed up again for the first time on Tuesday, I was really scared,” said the coach.
Bülter had “lost a lot of weight” due to the infection and his face was not only “white,” but “glassy. You could see through it,” said Kwasniok. He rules out a starting eleven nomination on Saturday. It remains to be seen whether Bülter can play at all. In view of the weight loss, Kwasniok noted with a smile: “This illness would have been good for me – but not for him.”
