On April 30, Netflix premieres “El Eternalauta”the first audiovisual adaptation of the emblematic Argentine graphic novel created by Héctor Germán Oesterheld and illustrated by Francisco Solano López in 1957. With regard to its production, the series means an unprecedented challenge for the national industry. Filmed entirely in Buenos Aires between May and December 2023, more than 35 real locations and 25 scenarios specifically designed with Virtual Production technology were used. This approach allowed precision to recreate the apocalyptic atmosphere of the city of Buenos Aires devastated by a toxic snow that makes the central plot. To obtain real images that were then digitally retouched, production took advantage of the pandemic and scanned places such as the Panamericana, Avenida Cabildo and Callecitas of the Buenos Aires center in almost deserted state.

Other points at which they were given special care was in the snow used. For the scenes to have the highest level of realism, five different types of snow were used. For example, for the shots where the snow had to leave the footprints of its protagonists marked, an entertainment salt was used. For the one that fell from the sky, a dry foam soap, another called “perlita” for the confinement scenes that gave better in camera and others that combined cellulose with water for the different storm intensities. This work kept more than 40 people occupied. Adding to the artistic, technical and acting team, 150 professionals were required in total.

In addition to Ricardo Darín as Juan Salvothe cast has actors such as Carla Peterson, Andrea Pietra, Ariel Staltari and Marcelo Subiotto. The direction of Bruno Stagnaro, known for “Pizza, Birra, Faso” and “Okupas”, brings an authentic and committed vision. Stagnaro in turn co -written the script with Ariel Staltari, while Martín Oesterheld, grandson of the author, worked as a creative consultant.

The cartoon tells how a mortal snowfall falls on Buenos Aires, eliminating a large part of the population.
