“Friesenjung” rapper Joost Klein represents the Netherlands at the ESC

Back in August it was reported that Joost Klein would represent the Netherlands at Wants to represent Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö. Now the official representative has been announced – Joost Klein, better known as Joost, has successfully prevailed.

From “Friesian boy” to ESC representative

The rapper started his career as a YouTuber and has already achieved several top 10 hits in the Netherlands and Belgium. His version of “Friesenjung” with Ski Aggu and Otto Waalkes also reached first place in the single charts in Germany and Austria.

The title of the song with which Joost will represent the Netherlands at the ESC has not yet been made public. But the artist didn’t write the song alone. In August he announced that he had written the ESC track together with his friend and rapper Donnie. Joost announced on Instagram: “Dear men, I just wrote the best song for Eurovision 2024 with my chatterbox.”

“A dream come true”

Joost was very moved by his ESC nomination and explained to the Dutch radio station ““AVOTROS”: “Participating in the Eurovision Song Contest is a dream come true. I used to watch it on TV every year with my parents. It is an honor to represent the Netherlands and I will do everything I can to get the best result. Joost Klein, dream big!”

The selection committee from the Netherlands, consisting of seven members, listened to over 600 submissions. With it they set a record, it was the most application submissions for an ESC ever. Joost managed to stand out from the other applicants with his story and his musical contribution.
