Top German sprinter Lea Sophie Friedrich still has to wait for her first medal at the World Track Cycling Championships in Santiago de Chile. In the one-kilometer time trial on Saturday, the 25-year-old had to settle for fourth place in 1:04.944 minutes. Pauline Grabosch also missed the podium in seventh place (1:05.956).

The two-time time trial world champion Friedrich (2020, 2021) had to admit defeat in the final to the outstanding Dutchwoman Hetty van de Wouw, who set a world record in 1:03.121 minutes, as well as the Russian Jana Burlakowa (+1.676 seconds) and Ellesse Andrews (New Zealand/+1.788). Friedrich and Grabosch had already missed out on a medal at the start of the World Cup in the team sprint alongside Alessa Pröpster. In the supreme discipline of sprinting, the duo came to an early end.

In the single pursuit, the final takes place without German participation. Former world champion Franziska Brauße took sixth place in 4:32.924 minutes. The second German starter Mieke Kröger, like Brauße the Tokyo Olympic champion in the foursome, came in ninth place in 4:37.209 minutes. Only the best four starters qualified for the medal runs. British defending champion Anna Morris set the fastest time (4:24.194).

In the men’s sprint, the German duo missed the quarterfinals. Henric Hackmann, who came fourth in the non-Olympic time trial on Friday, had to compete against Dutch runner-up Jeffrey Hoogland in the round of 16 and was eliminated. For Luca Spiegel it was over in the second round.
