Wirtz pale again
Liverpool in crisis: “Reds” lose again
October 25, 2025 – 11:24 p.mReading time: 2 minutes

Coach Arne Slot’s team suffered their fifth defeat in their last six competitive games. A DFB professional also entered the list of goalscorers against the “Reds”.
The crisis of English football champions FC Liverpool in the Premier League is coming to a head. The team around the national player Florian Wirtz, who was again goalless, suffered their fourth league defeat in a row with a 2:3 (1:2) at FC Brentford and is in danger of losing touch with the top ranks for the time being.
Wirtz’ DFB colleague Kevin Schade (45th) as well as Dango Ouattara (5th) and Igor Thiago (60th, penalty kick according to video evidence) scored the goals for the hosts. For the English champions, who had dispatched Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 in the Champions League during the week, the follow-up goals from Milos Kerkez (45th + 3) and the recently unfortunate Mohamed Salah (88th) were not enough.
The Reds once again appeared extremely vulnerable defensively. Brentford specifically attacked Liverpool’s high line with long balls and straightforward transition play. Schade’s goal to make it 2-0 came after an exemplary counterattack. The 23-year-old scored his second goal of the season.
Kerkez’s 1:2 only gave the guests hope for a short time. The fourth official Tim Robinson, who replaced the injured referee Simon Hooper after half-time, awarded a penalty with VAR support after a foul by Virgil van Dijk on the edge of the penalty area – Igor Thiago remained ice cold. In the end, Salah’s third goal of the season was not enough for Liverpool.
The 23-year-old Schade has played four international matches for the DFB team so far, and was last on the pitch in the German jersey in the 1-0 win against the Dutch in October 2024. Since then, the former Freiburger has not been nominated by national coach Julian Nagelsmann.
