Free pampering day for women with cancer: “Put a smile on their face”

“Cancer changes so much”, Stephanie Akkerman-Baede knows. The beautician from Venhuizen therefore wants to do ‘something positive’ and is holding a pampering day next Sunday for eight women who are battling the disease. “Try to do something for someone else.”

It is not the first time that the 35-year-old has organized such a day. She calls it the ‘You are beautiful day’. “Because beauty comes from within and even with all the changes that the disease brings, you remain a beautiful person.”

Stephanie can receive a total of eight women on the pampering day next Sunday. They receive a facial treatment, are nicely made up and receive a foot reflexology or foot massage. Colleagues and friends of Stephanie are selflessly committed. “My six-year-old daughter Fay also helps. She will give hand massages. And we will take care of the catering ourselves. My specialty? Oreo cheesecake.”

Selfish

She wants to contribute something positive, to a society that seems to be becoming increasingly rough. “It seems like we’re getting more and more unkind to each other, more and more selfish. In the store, for example, to let someone out. I still visit my 84-year-old grandmother every week, because I think you should take care of each other. But I I have the feeling that fewer and fewer people are looking after someone else. Try doing something for someone else, I’d say. It takes so little effort.”

She hopes to treat the participants to a beautiful day. “Cancer does a lot to people. Not only for the patient himself, but also for the entire environment. We all know that it is intense. If we can put a smile on the faces on this day, or the women don’t make it feel sick, then it’s already done.”

Because of corona, it has been three years since she was able to organize the day. “A woman was present at the time, who died not much later. The photo of that day now hangs in that family’s house. That’s beautiful, isn’t it? It will be a day with a smile and emotions.”

There is still room for three participants. Women who qualify for this day serve themselves to sign up via the website of Staphanie’s beauty salon Tis Mooi.
