Julia Simon is one of the best biathletes in the world. But their preparation for the new season is more restless than hoped for.
Serious allegations against Julia Simon: The biathlon overall World Cup winner of 2023 is said to have stolen the credit card. The French newspaper “Le Dauphiné” reports. So far it was only known that Simon’s teammate Justine Braisaz-Bouchet was affected. Before the 2023/24 season, the allegations had arisen that Simon had bought goods worth 1,620 euros on the Internet with her compatriot’s credit card.
Simon denied the allegations and said in an interview with “Le Dauphiné” and “L’équipe” that someone had used their name for the order. “I am also a victim of this situation,” she emphasized at the time.
Now, however, French authorities have also found the IP addresses of the computer in the recent investigations with which the orders were made. The perpetrator bought “High-Tech GoPro” items worth more than 2,000 euros. Simon is considered a suspect and must appear on October 24th in front of the criminal court in Albertville, a small town in eastern France. Then the negotiation takes place. A more than unfavorable time, after all, the new biathlon season begins a month later.
According to its own statement, the French Ski Association wants to wait for the court judgment before taking further steps. “For two years, the association, together with the sports management of the French biathlon team, ensured that this case does not affect the individual sports project of the athletes or the collective functioning of the team,” said the message. If Simon is spoken guilty, this could also have consequences for their participation in the 2026 Olympics.
