‘Fraud at notary office Veldhoven: accountant took three million with him’

An accountant has embezzled millions from a Veldhoven notary office, can be read in the ED. For years, the Nuenen advisor and owner of the bankrupt Golfplaza transferred more than three million euros from Notarishuys to his own accounts.

This former bookkeeper and administrator of Notarishuys Veldhoven used the so-called escrow account as a cash tap for years. For fourteen years, the now 53-year-old entrepreneur and financial advisor from Nuenen was able to go about his business undisturbed. Among other things, he drove big Porsches and took over a chain of golf shops, the newspaper. Until last summer the alarm bells went off at Rabobank. The bank informed the notary’s office.

Third party account
Between 2008 and August 2022, the man systematically pushed money back. He worked as an administrator for the notary office on Dorpstraat in Veldhoven and also ran his own financial consultancy company in Eindhoven. It started with small amounts. Those amounts became larger and in 2020 really large sums of money disappeared from the account. That is also the year that the Nuenenaar takes over Golfplaza, an Eindhoven chain of golf shops.

In total, the Nuenenaar left behind 3.1 million euros at Notarishuys, an initial inventory has shown. This concerns customer money that was held in a third-party account with the civil-law notary. These are often considerable sums of money that are temporarily stored there because of a real estate transaction, for example. Grabbing from such an account is considered a mortal sin because it is precisely associated to a large extent with confidence in the notarial profession.
