Who is the monster? Not a question that arises for Guillermo Del Toro. Here is our review of the film.
If you look at Guillermo Del Toro’s previous filmography, it is not difficult to see that Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” is something like an urtext for the Mexican director – ground zero for his view of the world, with the monster as a misunderstood creature and society as the real monster, always ready to hunt what is different and unknown.

In this respect, this new “Frankenstein”, created for Netflix, is something like the culmination of his 30 years of filmmaking, a magnificent and enjoyable experience.
Between beauty and horror
And then a disappointment, miscast in many key roles and animated by such grotesque violence that you turn away more often than you should in a film with Jacob Elordi as a monster.
