For a long time the Foxes Berlin were in the decisive championship game in the back, in the end they won the game. And secured the historical title.
The Foxes Berlin fulfilled the dream of the first championship title in club history. Thanks to an increase after the break, the capital handball players prevailed in the season finale at the Rhein-Neckar Löwen with 38:33 (17:20). The SC Magdeburg was in the remote duel and was in the end with a point behind the Berliners.
The defending champion used the victory at SG BBM Bietigheim (35:25). The two title rivals will take to Europe’s handball crown at the final four of the Champions League this weekend. Berlin meets Nantes in the semifinals, Magdeburg is dealing with the record winner FC Barcelona.
In front of 13,200 spectators in Mannheim, the foxes caught a very bad start and were already 0: 3 behind after only 90 seconds. The Berliners ran in vain in the first half because they acted too incorrectly in the attack and in defense. At 10:14 (19th minute), coach Jaron Siewert reacted with a first break. The catch -up he hoped for initially failed to catch up. His protégés took a three-goal mortgage into the break.
After the change, world handball players Mathias Gidsel and Co. then increased significantly. The Danish world champion and Olympic champion could hardly be represented by the Löwen defense and with ten goals in the best Foxes launcher. In addition to him, left wing also shone Tim Freihöfer (eleven) as a safe executor. In addition, goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev increased, who was not a factor at all in the first half and had to vacate his place in phases for Lasse Ludwig.
18 minutes before the end, the guests managed the first lead in the game at 27:26, which was from then on for the Berliners in the hoped -for. This was pleased with the many Foxes fans in the SAP Arena and around 1,500 supporters who were thrilled in Berlin during public viewing on the bathing ship on the Spree.
According to Füchse-Boss Bob Hanning, the greatest success in the club’s history is a result of “real manual work”. The former DHB Vice President has been pulling the stripping among the Berliners for 20 years and developed the team from a second division into the best team in the world. “I am not a group -controlled and have no patron at my side. I have been doing this with these hands for 20 years, from Monday morning 7 a.m. to Sunday evening 11:00 p.m.,” said Hanning.
Hanning also knows that real manual work alone does not get a title. Without Gidsel, the foxes would not be a master team. During his contract extension in winter to 2029, the Berliners had given their superstar the promise to further strengthen the team over the next few years.
But it already seems as if the team was optimally compiled and Gidsel at the destination of his Bundesliga dreams. A star ensemble from the world’s best player and own plants like national players Nils Lichtlein or Tim Freihofer, who now act at a high level. “Mathias Gidsel does better every teammate,” said sports director Stefan Kretzschmar the performance increase of all players in the team.
