During the house searches, the police seized two vehicles, a mobile phone and around 20,000 euros in cash. One of the searched locations is a company suspected of illegally selling polluted earth and waste, such as asbestos, to a French criminal organization.
“We found serious environmental infringements on one of the sites,” says a spokesperson for the federal police. Another site, also in use by the company, was immediately closed by the environmental service of the federal police and a supervisor of the city of Menen.
According to the public prosecutor, it would be no less than 4,400 tonnes of waste that was illegally exported to France between September 2024 and April 2025.
