The crising second division club Fortuna Düsseldorf reacted to the ongoing negative trend and separated from coach Daniel Thioune. The successor has already been determined.
Actually, sports director Klaus Allofs wanted to go up with Thioune. But after only ten points from eight games, the 51 -year -old lacked the arguments – his chapter as a trainer of Fortuna Düsseldorf is over. This was confirmed by the Rhinelanders on Monday afternoon. The previous assistant coach Jan Hoepner and Manfred Stefes were also released.
Markus starts the coaching position with the second division club as the successor. With him they have “an excellent connoisseur of the 2nd Bundesliga”, who has already shown “that he can successfully lead teams,” said Düsseldorf’s sports director Klaus Allofs.
Thione to Nuremberg without illusions
The 51-year-old Thioune had increasingly criticized in recent weeks. The 2: 3 on Friday evening against 1. FC Nürnberg was the third home defeat this season. However, the development has been worrying for a long time. Before the eleventh matchday of last season, the Fortuna was still the leaders. Of the 32 games since then she only won eleven, the point cut is 1.38.
“Stupid” and “naive”, yes “rarely stupid”, the team played against Nuremberg, captain Florian Kastenmeier had scolded after the recent defeat. It didn’t help that he took Thioune protected: “Many talk about the coach, but in the end he is not on the pitch, but we.”
Thioune himself had no illusions. “At the end of the day it is about the club, not about me,” the coach, who had been sitting on the coaching bench of Düsseldorf since February 2022, found the day after the defeat.
Beginning Fortuna past
With Markus Beginner, someone with Fortuna past should now take over the helm at the Rhineland. The 51-year-old was under contract with the Düsseldorfers at his active time: once to Bundesliga and once in regional league times.
Most recently, the 1st FC Kaiserslautern trained at the beginning, but was released there two game days before the end of the past second division season in the middle of the promotion struggle and after three defeats in series. His greatest success as a trainer celebrated eight years ago when he rose to the 2nd league with Holstein Kiel. He then trained 1. FC Köln, Werder Bremen and Dynamo Dresden.
