Düsseldorf announced publicly not to sign a player. Previously, there had been fan protests on the Internet for statements by the Israeli striker.
Second division Fortuna Düsseldorf has rejected a possible obligation by the Israeli striker Shon Weissman and publicly informed it. “We dealt intensively with Shon Weissman, but finally decided to refrain from an obligation,” the association wrote on the X.
When asked whether this decision was related to fan protests against an impending obligation, the association did not want to express itself explicitly. There had been resistance to a transfer of the 29-year-old in fan forums and social networks. A petition was also started on the change Change.org platform to prevent his obligation.
The protests refer to reports of Weissman’s statements in connection with the Gaza War, which began on October 7, 2023 after the attack by the terrorist organization Hamas. According to a report by the Israeli news portal “Walla”, which appeared a little later, Weissman had provided posts on social networks with a like that demands Gaza’s extinguishing.
After the burst transfer to Düsseldorf, Weissman commented on social networks. “While I accept every criticism, it hurts me that the entire context was not taken into account,” wrote Weissman in a detailed statement on the Instagram platform. He cannot be represented as someone who shook hatred.
Düsseldorf is looking for a center forward for the 1: 5 at the start of the season on Saturday evening at Arminia Bielefeld. Dawid Kownacki (to Hertha BSC) and Isak Johannesson (to the 1st FC Köln) left the club in summer.
